Need a quick escape to the great outdoors? Ijams Nature Center is located just a mere three and a half miles from downtown Knoxville. For over 40 years, Ijams has continued its tradition of being a wildlife sanctuary amidst a more urbanized area of Knoxville. Situated on the Tennessee River, this 275 acre property has plenty of activities for visitors of all ages. Possibilities are endless with over 10 miles of hiking trails and daily educational programs. Just in case all of that was not enough, Ijams is free and open 365 days a year! Learn more about this beautiful sanctuary  and all of the great areas your family can explore by visiting www.ijams.org

  1. My family loves walking the trails of Ijams Nature Center, especially in autumn months and as the seasons are changing! We like that we don’t have to drive far to enjoy a late-morning walk surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature. Younger children can easily walk (or run, in our case!) the trails and have fun playing and exploring Jo’s Grove. Afterwards, we like to stop off in downtown Knoxville, lunch at the Tomato Head in Market Square, peruse the shops, and let the kids find a few treats amongst the candy barrels in Mast General. Makes for a good family fun day!
